AKI, ArtEZ-project

The project is related to the political, social and cultural awareness of students. We as tutors and staff members had a feeling that students are little aware nowadays of their surroundings and what is happening in this world. The work of many of our students seems very self-centred and not open to the world.

Therefore the project Wall of Statements wants to investigate if students can still make 'statements' about what moves them, what excites, wonders or puzzles them or makes them angry. Maybe our perspective on students is not right, and in this project they can prove that they still care about things.

In this project groups of students (15-20) develop statements, either in words or in visual images (photography, printing, drawing for instance). These statements then will be collected and printed. These prints then will be send to Enschede.

If it is possible in the time plan, Enschede will distributed the statements to the other participating academies, so the students start to react then on statements made by their fellow students abroad. If not, they will be distributed for the final presentation. The final deadline for sending the statements for the end presentation to Enschede is the 1st of April 2008.

Every academy will make a final presentation with statements from all participating academies on a wall in their own city. This presentation has to open on the 22nd of April 2008. At this date in Enschede the AKI Festival will start and since the Wall of Statements collaborates with the AKI Festival, this date has been chosen as the opening day.

The process of making the statements and the final presentation have to be well documented for a publication/catalogue that will be made.
This project is financially supported through the council of Enschede and the AKI, ArtEZ.
